Troop 463's high adventure program provides the experienced Scouts an extra benefit tht goes beyond our regular events and outings. While the main troop's outings are a lot of fun, they are limited
to local trips and must be structured for all of the Scouts. However, since the High Adventure group is composed of the older, more experienced Scouts, they can go on any trip imaginable. To be in High Adventure group, the scout has to attain the rank of 1st Class before the trip. This requirement allows High Adventure group to go on more adventurous and more
fun outings since everyone has the basic skills of scouting.
50-miler through the heart of Yosemite
Short backpacking trips are a lot of fun but when one goes on a 50-miler one can really see the
wilderness. Although it was re-routed on the second day because one of
the adults had a sore ankle, it was still a blast. We went to Half-dome and Clouds rest. The Scouts who went on
it had so much fun that some day they want to take part in another 50-miler
or extended backpacking trip.
Alaska for two weeks
We went ice climbing, backpacking,
ocean kayaking among icebergs, sightseeing, ferry-riding, knife and tomahawk
throwing, day hiking, and visiting other troops. All of us who went to
Alaska had a blast.
Where we go, what we do, and most of the other planning is done by the Scouts that are participating in the trip. Although the Scoutmaster
or another adult may suggest something, it is all up to the Scouts who
will be participating as to what is done on these outings. If a member
wants to do an activity they just need to convince the rest of the Scouts
who will be participating. If the
Scouts in High Adventure want to do it High Adventure will!
